| NIGHT
GUARD
Congratulations on your new mouthpiece!
WEAR YOUR NIGHT GUARD AT NIGHT ONLY.
If you are experiencing pain:
1. Sleep on your back. In order to do this, the natural curvature
of the spine must be preserved. Place a pillow underneath your knees
and either a small pillow or a rolled up towel underneath your neck
for support. In certain cases we may recommend that a special pillow
be used.
2. Apply moist heat to the areas that ache using a heating pad that
supplies moist heat. You may use a dry heating pad in combination
with a moist towel. Do this for periods of 20 minutes twice each
day.
Limit your intake of sugar, caffeine, and nicotine: sugar and caffeine
are stimulants to the nervous system, which results in increased
muscle activity. In most cases we are trying to rest muscles in
order to heal jaw pain. Nicotine causes blood sugar to rise, which
again increases muscle activity.
CARE OF THE NIGHTGUARD
1. Thoroughly cleanse the inside as well as the outside of the night-
guard using a medium/hard toothbrush and Ivory soap.
2. Soak the night guard in mouthwash after cleaning.
