ORAL SURGERY POST OPERATIVE

INSTRUCTIONS


Your healing and recovery from this surgical procedure depends on how well you following these instructions and those given to you at the time of the procedure.


THE DAY OF THE OPERATION

BLEEDING


1. Keep gauze pack in place at least I hour with constant, firm pressure.

2. Keep head elevated and rest.


3 .Do Not suck or spit. Do not use straws in drinks. 4. Do not use straws in drinks.


5. Some oozing and discoloration of saliva is normal. If the bleeding persists, you can replace the gauze over the extraction site with a new one.


6. If bleeding continues you can wet a tea bag and place it over extraction site with constant firm pressure for 30 minutes.


7. If none of these methods stop the bleeding or if the blood appears to be excessive and bright red, call the doctor.


8. NO alcohol or smoking for.1 days after the surgery.


9. No carbonated drinks (cokes) the day of the surgery.


SWELLING


Ice bags or cold compresses may be applied to area of the surgery for 5 minutes on and 5 minutes off at a time. (ONLY THE DAY OF SURGERY) This will help control some of the swelling and bleeding. ~


PAIN

Take prescribed medication or what you would normally take for a headache. M hours after surgery, a warm compress will help muscle discomfort.


DIET


Follow your normal diet. You may have to grind up your food. No sharp foods like potato chips or Doritios for one week.


TWO DAYS AFTER SURGERY


1. Continue antibiotics if prescribed, be sure to take them as prescribed.

2. Brush teeth carefully.


3. Start using warm salt water as a mouth rinse 5 times per day for one week. (1 Teaspoon of salt added to I 8oz glass of warm water)


4. Continue pain medication, if needed.
