YOU AND YOUR REMOVABLE PARTIAL DENTURES

Care of the Mouth

1. Remove the PARTIAL(S) at night when you are ready to sleep. The PARTIAL should be left out of the mouth at least 4-8 hours in each 24-hour period unless your dentist advises otherwise.

2. Use a very soft toothbrush to massage and cleanse all of the gum tissues which are covered by the Partial Denture.

3. Scrub your tongue with a soft tooth brush.

4. After each meal, whenever possible, remove the partial dentures, rinse your mouth and carefully clean the partial.

5. We recommend you NOT use home adhesive liners-usually if these are needed, your partial denture needs attention by the dentist who made them for you.

Care of the Partial Dentures

1. Thoroughly cleanse the inside as will as the outside of the partial using a denture brush or any soft toothbrush and liquid soap or nonabrasive bar soap. Using on the partial is not recommend.

2. Brush the partial over a partially filled basin of water or place hand towel down in basin. This will prevent damage to the partial denture if accidentally dropped.

3. You may soak the partial overnight in a commercial partial denture cleaner. (Not containing Clorox)
IMPORTANT: NEVER SOAK A DENTURE THAT HAS METAL PARTS IN A CLOROX- TYPE CLEANER.

4. Try to NEVER let the partial dry out. When it is not in your mouth, it should be kept in a cleaning solution or water.

What to Expect

This is a prosthesis and is not nor will it be like your natural teeth.

1. It may be difficult to eat corn on the cob, apples, or other foods which tend to dislodge the partial and may cause a harmful effect on the weak part of the ridges in front of the mouth. These foods should be cut with a knife and fork and chewed evenly on the back teeth. This will aid in seating the partial denture. Tearing or biting food off with the front teeth tends to unseat the partial especially in new partial denture wearers.

2. If any problem whatsoever arises with your partial return to your dentist for help. PLEASE DO NOT TRY TO ADJUST, reline or repair your PARTIAL denture. Your dentist's responsibility and obligation ends and the partial may be ruined if you attempt to adjust or repair your own partial.

3. No partial denture is permanent. Changes will continue to occur in the bones and soft tissues of the mouth. Only your dentist can determine if your mouth is in a healthy condition and if new partial dentures are needed. Return to your dentist
for regular checkups and maintenance of your partial denture, at least once a year.
